Thankyou A. Thank you for a great article! In my case replica that did not allow to delete PF DB base was in system folders, not user ones. This is a to migration. If no, will it give us the ability to let us set the partitions we want the db and the logs to sit in, during the script run?
Where you able to get solution for your issue.. I am in the same situation as you. I wish to remove the One Exch PF server due to old hardware. Have replicated all the data to new server. If I stopped the services on the old server, mail are not getting delivered on the mail enabled PF. I used the -whatif parameter on the end of this command to confirm that it would do what I wanted it to do and then ran the command without the -whatif parameter.

Do not reuse Exchange server IP addresses until they have been fully decommissioned. Third Party Applications Make a list of applications that may be using Exchange e. Review the Send Connectors Review the send connectors and ensure that the legacy servers have been removed and Exchange servers have been added. Transport Rules Exchange base transport rules are held in a different AD container than Exchange and newer rules.
Mailbox Role Identity and move all Exchange mailboxes to Exchange Decommissioning Exchange cannot be initiated until all mailboxes have been moved to Exchange That will cause your mailboxes being marked for deletion in on premise Exchange.
What I found useful is to leave one Exchange server on premise without any mailboxes then it is sometimes much easier to create accounts for Office Maybe there is other way to do this but I am using attribute editing.. I can't find scripts voor Exchange mailboxes.
If I convert an on-premises mailbox user, will this have implications for office ? The user already has an office mailbox in use. This conversion won't affect this situation? The user will not be converted on office ? Once you confirm everything is fine, then you are ready to remove On-Premises exchange server. Remember you will have to remove mailbox only not the AD account, if you delete the Mailbox it will delete the AD account as well.
Best option you have is, Disable all the Mailbox on the server and let it purge from Disconnected mailbox. If you want to force it instantly then run Clean-Mailbox. We first tested with one mailbox: disconnecting and purging a users mailbox did delete all mail-attributes from this users AD account. So we used a powershell script to list all the mail-attributes we needed to maintain in AD to sync with Dirsync: Primary SMTP address, e-mail address, Then we disconnected and purged the mailboxes on the on-premises exchange server and added the mail-attributes to the AD-account via the attribute editor in Active Directory Users and Computers, this for 80 user accounts.
We let dirsync sync a few times and when everything looked fine, we perfomed the uninstall of our on-premises exchange server. I then went into the user properties and put the proxyAddresses and "mail" attributes and pushed a sync again.. This put the primary email address back to what it should be..
What a major PITA.. So do we know exactly what attributes need to be re-added so I don't go and add some that aren't needed thus wasting time? You can use AD Snapshots to create a snapshot of all current attributes, then restore the specific attributes you need afterwards. The attributes you need to save are: mail, mailNickname, and ProxyAddresses. Im looking at doing the same process, so any details you could provide on your steps and how it went would be greatly appreciated.
So we just went ahead with this, I used Adaxes to backup the three attributes and then restore them after disabling the mailboxes. We have run into an issue though, it seems anyone who had an Online Archive in the old system has now had their accounts break. New ones created in are ok though. Are there any scripts or free programs to backup these attributes? The last time I had to do one of these was around the time frame so I'm hoping Microsoft has released something to do this?
